A trader has been charged before Milimani Law court with smuggling of liquor worth KShs. 1,503,046 in taxes.
Sammy Gakuo Muroki, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi, faced the charge of conveying uncustomed goods contrary to Section 199(b) of the East Africa Community Customs Management Act.
The accused person was arrested on 5th May 2021 along the Namanga- Kajiado Road within Kajiado County. He was found transporting 513 cartons of Heineken Beer, 8 Cartons of Desperado alcoholic drinks and 23 bales of soft blankets.
He denied the charge and was released on a bond of KShs 300,000 or alternative bail of KShs 200,000. The case will be heard on 31st May 2021
