Kenya and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed their longstanding partnership, rooted in cultural exchanges, trade relations, and diplomatic collaboration, during a high-level meeting held on Wednesday.
Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, alongside Principal Secretaries John Ololtuaa (Tourism) and Silvia Museiya (Wildlife), met with EU Member Country Ambassadors in Nairobi.
The discussions were facilitated by the Head of the EU Delegation to Kenya, Her Excellency Henriette Geiger.
The talks centered on strengthening joint initiatives to promote Kenya’s tourism sector through shared networks and collaborative efforts.
EU nations have consistently played a pivotal role in Kenya’s travel industry, serving as key sources of international visitors and fostering economic growth through tourism.
The meeting highlighted the importance of leveraging these ties to attract more European travellers to Kenya’s diverse attractions, from its wildlife and beaches to its cultural heritage and adventure tourism offerings.
This engagement aligns with Kenya’s ambitious goal of welcoming 5 million international visitors annually within the next three years.
The delegates expressed a shared commitment to encouraging travellers from their respective countries to explore Kenya, underscoring a unified vision for boosting tourism and deepening bilateral relations.
The meeting also emphasized the need for sustained collaboration to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the tourism sector.
With the EU being a critical partner, Kenya aims to enhance its global tourism appeal while fostering mutual economic and cultural benefits.
This partnership not only supports Kenya’s tourism recovery post-pandemic but also strengthens the broader ties between the two regions.
