The University of Toronto has one of the highest enrollment rates in the world at 93,801. Almost a quarter of these students are foreigners (24.7% or 23,019).
Most international students are at the Master’s and Ph.D. levels (19,000), while the rest (4,019) are taking their Bachelor’s degrees.
With regards to citizenship, most international students come from China, India, and the United States.
To cater to this large number of foreigners, the university has opened a dedicated office named the Center for International Experience. Its primary role is to provide these students with the unique services they need to pursue global learning.
Apart from overseeing essential needs such as study permits, work permits, and insurance, the office also manages awards, research, and internships.
Tuition Fee at the University of Toronto for International Students
Undergraduate tuition at the University of Toronto varies according to the program. The cheapest is the Music program, which costs CAD 39,560 (USD 31,330) a year. The most expensive is an Applied Science or Engineering course, which costs CAD 62,250 (USD 49,230) a year.
Graduate tuition is cheaper, with the lowest fee starting at CAD 25,206 or USD 19,965 (Masters in Forest Conservation). Ph.D. courses are even more affordable, starting at CAD 6,210 (USD 4,920) annually.

Application Fee at the University of Toronto
To apply at UToronto, you need to pay a non-refundable fee of CAD 180 (USD 145).
Applications may also be placed through the Ontario Universities Application Center, which levies a certain fee on top of the university’s supplementary fee of CAD 90 (USD 75).
At the School for Graduate Studies, the fee for applying costs CAD 125 (USD 100). Depending on your preferred program, you may need to pay a supplementary fee as well.
Admissions Requirements at UToronto for International Students
The minimum requirement for international students is the completion of secondary education. A senior-level/grade 12 English course is also mandated. This is outside of the university’s English language requirement. Acceptable tests for this include Cambridge, Duolingo, Pearson, IELTS, and TOEFL, to name a few.
Your preferred program may also require you to take other pre-requisite courses. Biochemistry majors, for example, need to have finished courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Calculus & Vectors.
Supplemental application requirements – such as auditions or profiles – are also required for certain applicants (Management, Computer Science, Music, Kinesiology, Architecture, etc.)
As for Master’s students is a Bachelor’s degree with a final year average of at least B (or equivalent). Ph.D. applicants, on the other hand, need to have a Master’s degree diploma with a grade of at least B (an A-minus grade can lead to direct admission to the program).
Proof of English proficiency, which should have been taken within the last 24 months, is also mandated.
Other requirements include personal reference forms and GRE results. A certain faculty/program may also warrant other additional documents.
University of Toronto Rankings
The World University Rankings lists UToronto as the 18th best university in the globe. It also puts the university at number 20 for World Reputation and 28 for Impact.
The university’s highest-ranking program in Clinical & Health Science, which is placed 6th in the world. Its Arts & Humanities program, on the other hand, is ranked 15th.
Toronto’s other noted specializations include Business & Economics (24), Life Science (25), Social Science (27), Engineering & Technology (28), and Physical Science (33).
The Top Universities survey, on the other hand, ranks UToronto lower at 25. Its subject rankings, however, are markedly higher. For one, the university’s Education & Training and Library Management programs are ranked third-best in the world.
Toronto’s Sports programs are ranked 4th. Anatomy & Physiology courses are 5th, while its Anthropology degrees are placed at rank 6.
University of Toronto Acceptance Rate
Despite being a top-tier institution, UToronto has a markedly high acceptance rate. Recent estimates put it at 43%.
Even with this high admission rate, UToronto makes sure that it accepts only the best of the best. Statistics show that most of its eligible undergraduate applicants have a GPA of 3.6 to 4.0, an SAT of 1330 to 1500, and an ACT composite of 29-34.

1. Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship

The Lester B. Pearson International Scholarship is a prestigious and competitive University of Toronto scholarship granted to first-entry students nominated by their high schools. Selection is based on the applicant’s academic achievement, leadership, and creativity. The student’s impact on their school and community is considered as well.
Apart from covering the full tuition amount, the Pearson scholarship covers book costs, lodging, and other incidental fees.
A total of 37 eligible students are awarded the Pearson scholarship yearly.
2. University of Toronto International Scholar Award

The Toronto International Scholar award is given to selected students of the Faculty of Arts & Science (St. George campus) according to merit. All applicants are automatically considered for this University of Toronto scholarship, which has a value of up to CAD 100,000 (CAD 40,000 for the first year and CAD 20,000 for the subsequent years).
Renewal of this award is subject to the applicant’s standing. Although a certain GPA is not required to maintain this scholarship, it may be withdrawn due to poor performance.

2. Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Doctoral Scholarships

The Trudeau scholarship is given to 20 Ph.D. students – engaged leaders who can improve communities not only in Canada but also in the rest of the world.
To be eligible for this University of Toronto scholarship, the applicant should be a 1st-3rd year doctoral student specializing in any of 4 humanities/social science fields.
