The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has signed a new service charter aimed at improving efficiency and customer experience at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

JKIA is set for major upgrades as KAA signs a service charter with government agencies to enhance security, immigration, and customer service at Kenya’s busiest airport.
JKIA is set for major upgrades as KAA signs a service charter with government agencies to enhance security, immigration, and customer service at Kenya’s busiest airport.

This initiative brings together key government agencies and service providers operating at the airport.

Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, played a central role in the signing of the charter, which seeks to transform JKIA into a world-class aviation hub and strengthen Kenya’s position as a leading destination for international travel. The signing ceremony, held on March 17, 2025, was attended by top government officials, including Cabinet Secretaries Davis Chirchir (Transport), Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior), and John Mbadi (Treasury).

The charter introduces key reforms to streamline operations, speed up passenger processing, and enhance security protocols. Measures include increasing the number of immigration booths, installing electronic self-clearance gates, and implementing risk-based profiling systems. Additionally, all airport staff, including personnel from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Immigration Department, Port Health Services, and Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS), will be required to wear uniforms and name tags for easier identification.

Miano’s involvement underscores her commitment to improving Kenya’s tourism infrastructure by supporting initiatives that enhance passenger experience and position JKIA as a competitive gateway for international visitors. The charter also outlines infrastructure upgrades such as improved signage, better drainage systems, enhanced air-conditioning, and expanded parking facilities, all aimed at making travel through JKIA smoother and more efficient.

With these reforms in place, JKIA is expected to offer a seamless travel experience that meets global standards, reinforcing Kenya’s ambition to attract more tourists and business travellers. Miano’s leadership in this initiative reflects the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the aviation sector as a key pillar of economic growth and international connectivity.
