Eric Theuri is the new President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) replacing Nelson Havi who is now running to represent Westlands constituency in the National Assembly.
The former LSK Nairobi Branch Chairman garnered more votes than his closest competitor Omwanza Ombati. The election was characterized by low voter turn out.
Conceding defeat, Omwanza Ombati congratulated Theuri saying: Congratulations Eric Theuri. We all gave a good account of ourselves. The Law Society is larger than all of us. Thank you all for the support. God bless.”
Other aspirants in the same category were former vice president Carolyne Kamende, former treasurer Bernhard Kipng’etich, and Matthew Nyabena.
Of the total votes cast (5013), Theuri garnered 1811, followed by Kamende (1085), Omwanza (920), Nyabena (745) and finally Ngetich (452).
Who is Eric Theuri?
Eric Theuri represented LSK Nairobi Branch as its chairman for the past two years.
Mr Theuri boasts 17 years’ experience in law. He served as LSK Council Member between 2014 and 2016.
He has served in LSK Young Lawyers Committee and the Welfare Committee.
As chairman of LSK Nairobi Branch, Theuri was instrumental in turning around the fortunes of the outfit which was marred with mismanagement.
In the campaign trail, Theuri promised to strengthen LSK branches to become independent, financially secure and effective; as president, he plans to pursue a waiver for lawyer joining the bar.
He is married and blessed with two boys.
LSK boasts over 17,000 members countrywide.
