The food market concept in the local retail sector is garnering traction and forcing traditional forms of supermarket to adapt or close shop.
This is according to Willy Kimani, the Naivas Chief Commercial Officer.
This has been the driving force behind the two current leading supermarket chains in the country.
The move has seen leading local retail chain Naivas and Quickmart Supermarkets change their mode of operations and fully embrace the change.
Willy Kimani, told Business Hub that retail shopping in the country has taken a different dimension with the growth and expansion of malls offering a new experience to shoppers.
The retail chain has been on an aggressive expansion trajectory and is set to open its 81st outlet in the country at New The Imaara Shopping Mall tomorrow coinciding with the mall’s official launch.
“We have over the years perfected and achieved this because we embrace and celebrate our Kenyan heritage which can be seen in our product offering and service delivery but most importantly, continuously studying and understanding our shoppers since retail is detail,” Kimani explained.
The new outlet covering more than 34,000 square feet of trading space will now be the anchor tenant at the mall.
It will be the 3rd largest Naivas store by store size and the 8th outlet in the greater Mombasa Road region.
The CFO revealed that this new outlet, will also bear the Food market concept.
“We are delighted to have been the Supermarket of choice for this new addition to the Mombasa Road topography. We are glad that we get to bring a world class shopping experience to the region” Willy Kimani disclosed.
The new store is will be stocked with fresh produce, commodities, electronics and other general products. The opening of this new store comes during a very tough economic.
