The discussions centered on safeguarding protected areas while addressing matters raised through parliamentary representation.

Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano participated in the meeting alongside the Principal Secretary for the State Department of Wildlife and the Director General of the Kenya Wildlife Service, Prof. Erastus Kanga.

The engagement focused on the ministry’s conservation mandate and ongoing dialogue with Parliament on protected ecosystems.

The ministry reaffirmed its core responsibility of protecting and conserving Kenya’s wildlife and natural heritage.

The discussions also touched on cooperation with leadership to address historical land concerns while maintaining focus on the integrity of protected areas such as Tsavo West and the Kiunga Marine National Reserve.

The ministry acknowledged the role of Parliament in channeling community concerns through the Public Petitions Committee, noting its contribution to national decision-making processes.

The engagement was framed around continued institutional collaboration on conservation and land-related matters affecting protected zones.

“This partnership and teamwork affirms our priorities in ensuring that these protected ecosystems remain resilient against encroachment and environmental degradation. By upholding the law, we protect the biodiversity that sustains our tourism sector and our planet,” CS Miano said.

The ministry emphasized that strengthening conservation frameworks remains central to protecting biodiversity and ensuring the long-term stability of Kenya’s natural heritage.

The engagement reflects ongoing coordination between the ministry and Parliament on conservation governance and the management of protected landscapes under national policy frameworks.
