The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is currently developing the National Tourism Strategy 2025-2030, a comprehensive blueprint aimed at guiding the development, management, marketing and regulation of the country’s tourism sector.

The strategy, set to be finalized by May 2025, is being crafted in collaboration with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), alongside input from national and county governments, as well as private sector stakeholders.

During a recent stakeholders’ meeting, Dr. Manyara, a representative from UNECA, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting the Ministry in delivering the strategy on schedule.

The initiative seeks to address key challenges facing the sector while capitalizing on emerging opportunities to position Kenya as a leading global tourism destination.

A significant focus of the strategy will be on youth engagement, with plans to empower young people as catalysts for innovation and sustainable growth within the industry.

By involving youth in the sector’s development, the Ministry aims to foster creativity, drive technological advancements, and ensure long-term sustainability.

The strategy’s formulation comes at a critical time for Kenya’s tourism industry, which is recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and facing increasing competition from regional peers.

By aligning with global trends and leveraging local expertise, the Ministry hopes to attract more international visitors, boost economic growth, and create employment opportunities.

The involvement of multiple stakeholders, including county governments and private sector players, underscores the collaborative approach being taken to ensure the strategy’s success.

Once finalized, the National Tourism Strategy 2025-2030 is expected to serve as a roadmap for transforming Kenya’s tourism sector into a more resilient, inclusive, and competitive industry.
