National carrier Kenya Airways (KQ) through a staff notice number 008/2020 revealed that Boeing 787 Fleet Captain Daudi Kimuyu Kibati died of coronavirus related complications.
Captain Kimuyu who flew Kenya Airways last flight from New York to Nairobi was described by colleagues as friendly and kind.
“We join the family of the late Captain Kibati in mourning their loved one and pray that Almighty God will strengthen them during this time of sorrow,” KQ said in a statement adding that funeral announcement will be announced later.
The pilot had checked in at the Nairobi Hospital on March 29 complaining of difficulties breathing.
His doctor recommended Covid-19 tests which turned positive.
Two more pilots who tested positive are admitted at the same hospital.
Kenya has confrmed cases of covid-19 in 110 people as at yesterday. Seven cases have been close, 4 recoveries and 3 deaths.
The virus has killed over 50,000 people worlwide.
Over 1 million people are infected and about 37,000 are in critial condition.
KQ continues to incur loses as flights are suspended. The airline has applied for government bail out.
