Azimio La Umoja coalition campaigns in Kitui County turned out to be a windfall for former governor Julius Malombe.
The incumbent, Charity Ngilu bowed out of the race after the coalition’s flagbearer promised her an appointment in the forthcoming government.
Raila Odinga revealed that Charity Ngilu will not defend her seat.
“You will decide between former Governor Julius Malombe and former Senator David Musila who will be your governor. I want to take mama to Nairobi,” Mr Odinga said Wednesday while campaigning at Mutha Township in Kitui County.
The move is now expected to throw wide open the Kitui governorship race.
Former Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke is also seeking the Kitui governorship on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
Raila at the same time urged the people of Mutomo not to despair but once again turn out in large numbers to vote for the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party in the August polls.
Raila promised goodies for the people of Mutomo, among them access to water, boost for small business owners and security.
He said the plan also includes expansion and upgrade of road infrastructure to open the area to trade across boarder.
