Kenya’s destination marketing campaign, The Origin of Wonder, has secured continental recognition after winning one Gold and two Silver awards at the 2026 Pitcher Awards, reinforcing the country's efforts to position itself as a leading tourism destination through storytelling that blends culture, heritage and natural attractions.
Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano welcomed the achievement, describing it as an affirmation of Kenya’s evolving tourism brand and the growing international appeal of campaigns designed to showcase the country beyond traditional destination marketing.
Developed by Dentsu Creative East Africa for the Kenya Tourism Board under the Magical Kenya brand, the campaign has been used to market Kenya as the birthplace of nature, culture and humanity while presenting the country as a destination where unique experiences originate.
“We are absolutely thrilled to share that The Origin of Wonder manifesto has won Gold and two Silvers at the Pitcher Awards 2026 in the Heritage, Film and Craft Film categories,” said Miano, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife. “The Origin of Wonder celebrates Kenya with scale, pride and reminds the world that Kenya is not just a place to visit, but a place where wonder begins.”

The Gold award was earned in the Heritage–Film category, where the campaign was recognised for its portrayal of Kenya’s cultural identity, history and tourism appeal.
The accompanying Silver awards in the Film and Craft Film categories acknowledged the production’s storytelling quality, creative execution and technical excellence, placing the Kenyan project among the continent’s most celebrated advertising and branding campaigns this year.
The recognition came during the 2026 Pitcher Awards, widely regarded as one of Africa’s leading platforms for honouring excellence in advertising, marketing, media and creative communications.
Organisers described this year’s edition as a landmark event after welcoming entries from Mozambique and the United States for the first time, expanding the festival’s international reach while showcasing creative work from across multiple industries and markets.
For Kenya’s tourism sector, the accolade offers another opportunity to strengthen destination visibility in an increasingly competitive global travel market, where countries are investing heavily in branding campaigns designed to attract visitors, investors and international attention.
The Kenya Tourism Board has in recent years focused on repositioning the country through narratives that combine wildlife, culture, landscapes and heritage rather than relying solely on traditional safari marketing.
The success of The Origin of Wonder also places Kenya among a select group of African countries whose tourism campaigns received top honours at the continental competition, reflecting growing investment in high-quality creative content as governments and destination marketers compete for attention in global tourism markets.
“The Origin of Wonder celebrates Kenya with scale and pride,” said Miano. “Welcome to Magical Kenya. The Origin of Wonder.”
The Pitcher Awards said winning entries from the 2026 edition will be featured globally through the Pitcher Showcase, a travelling exhibition designed to highlight outstanding African creative work and promote the continent’s storytelling capabilities to international audiences.
