Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed says Kenya remains committed in the fight against doping and will comply with all requirements of the world anti-doping agency.

In this regard, Amina said Kenya will amend the Anti-Doping Act 2016 and the ADAK rules and regulations to ensure they conform to new regulations on the International Standard for Results Management.

The International Standard for Results Management establishes mandatory standards for minimal requirements that all Anti-Doping Organizations must follow in respect to the processes associated with anti-doping rule violations.

Speaking during the WADA Foundation Board meeting in Montreal, the CS said Kenya is always ready for continuous monitoring as this will strengthen our anti-doping activities.

This affirmation comes against the background of reports that has put Kenya on the global sport light in recent years on account of alleged use of performance enhancing substances among the country’s sportsmen and women.

“In fact, Kenya was the pilot country in 2017 for WADA’s audit program and achieved compliance within the stipulated period,” added the CS.

On the sidelines of the Foundation Board meeting, the CS held discussions with representatives of various countries as well as senior management of WADA who promised to support Kenya in its anti-doping programmes.

The CS who met the President elect of WADA, Mr. Witold Banka, said she will pursue the establishment of a fully-fledged laboratory in Kenya to serve the region.

“Kenya has consistently supported and finances the development of a national anti-doping agency, ADAK, and will continue to invest in the establishment of a multi-testing laboratory to improve the efficiency of testing,” said the Cabinet Secretary.

The Cabinet Secretary also affirmed Kenya’s readiness to adopt and implement the International Standard for Education.

“Kenya has already introduced a value-based curriculum that also places emphasis on the development of sports talents,” added the CS.

“Kenya is renowned globally as a sports power house.  Our sportsmen and women, coaches, sports managers and administrators must protect this reputation by embracing the concept of clean sport,” said Amb. Amina Mohammed.
