The World Geothermal Congress 2020+1 is being held in Reykjavik, Iceland.
Yesterday, Kenya Electricity Generating Company CEO & MD Rebecca Miano spoke virtually at the event.
She emphasized this year’s focus on global energy and climate action, showcasing KeGen’s green energy vision.
The conference has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic but it finally kicked off yesterday and will run from 25th – 27th October, 2021.
‘As many of you may already know, KenGen is the largest electricity generating company in East Africa; founded in 1954 and has grown over the years, now producing more than 70 per cent of electricity produced in Kenya. Eighty-six per cent of which is generated from renewable sources,” Miano said.
“Geothermal energy is a strong contender for the future of energy. I look forward to Africa leading the way towards embracing more clean energy as the renewable energy continent. This potential is the cornerstone of enhancing energy access,” Miano wrote.
