Kenyans on Twitter and Facebook (Netizens) spent the better part of Sunday to school IMF over loans to Kenya.
The irate netizens swarmed the Social media pages of the Bretton Woods institution with many messages with one goal; STOP GIVING LOANS TO KENYA.
IMF had approved a Sh257 billion loan to Kenya at a time the public trust is at an all-time low, due to corruption.
“The three-year financing package will support the next phase of the authorities’ COVID-19 response and their plan to reduce debt vulnerabilities while safeguarding resources to protect vulnerable groups,” IMF said.
Kenya is said to have so far received over Sh700 billion to fight the Covid-19 virus but wananchi say the effects have not been felt on the ground.
Since Covid-19 was first reported in Kenya, about a year ago, there have been many looting scandals surrounding the same.
Last year, a local television station revealed that over Sh60 billion worth of PEP and Covid-19 donations were stolen from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
A Parliamentary prove is on the case but it is quite unlikely that those mentioned will be brought to book.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is on record stating that about Sh2 billion is stolen from his govt every day.
Below are some of the tweets posted by Kenyans on the issue.
