Details have emerged on former Citizen TV anchor Hussein Mohammed’s career after he left the newsroom at the height of his stardom.
Mohamed moved into consultancy and is part of a new project funded by the US government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Speaking to a local news website former KTN News anchor reporter Yussuf Ibrahim disclosed that the two joined the project, Resilience Learning Activity (RLA), individually as consultants.
He further noted that as of now, they are working on a project with their respective companies but plans to partner are in the works for future projects.
“We have a partnership but it is not on paper. It happened we got this project as individual personalities but he has his own firm and I have my own company.
“We are individuals consultants but we want to partner so we come up with a communication firm. We want to have a one-stop shop for everything to do with communication,” stated Ibrahim.
He further noted that the new firm is poised to be a communications’ one-stop-shop dealing with issues such as digital marketing, communication strategy and crisis communication.
Mohammed runs a media company called Iris Media while Ibrahim is the founder of Ubra Media.
He explained that RLA was aimed at empowering people at the county level ranging from County Communication Directors to upcoming journalists at the county level.
Currently, the projected is targeting nine counties among them Garissa, Isiolo, Marsabit, Wajir, Makueni, Taita Taveta and Kitui.
“RLA is funded by USAID. The programme will last for five years but the communication bit may continue for four months with a possibility of spilling over to next year.
“This is the only place we are working for at the moment. We are going to work together in future that will culminate into a one stop communication shop,” he added.
RLA supports regional and country level institutions to conduct resilience learning in the Horn of Africa.
Mohammed quit his anchoring job at Citizen TV in October 2019 after a 10-year stint.
