The Kenyan Government has imposed a temporary 30 day ban on all international events and meetings in the country in efforts towards containing the coronavirus (COVID-19) threat.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe says the ban will apply to all meetings involving people travelling from Europe, the Middle East, and other COVID-19 infested areas.
“The government has with immediate effect banned all meetings and conferences of an international nature in Kenya for a month,” he said.
Speaking to members of the fourth estate during the launch of a 120-bed capacity isolation facility at Nairobi’s Mbagathi Hospital, CS Kagwe also revealed the government plans to roll out mass sensitization campaigns on coronavirus via text messages on a toll-free Safaricom number.
CS Kagwe has called on Kenyans to avoid non-essential travel out of the country.
“The Government has issued a travel advisory to all Kenyans to avoid non-essential travel to high risk countries for conferences/meetings or events where more than 15 people would be gathering,” he said.
