Failure to follow new directives to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) by the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe will land you a 3 year jail sentence.
Individuals who do not adhere to the tough travel, mass gathering and isolation rules will be charged and face a fine of up to Sh50,000 or a jail term of up to three years or both.
The new measures come into place a day after the state announced that confirmed cases of the virus had risen to 15 with eight positive people captured over the past 72 hours.
Health Secretary Kagwe together with Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai say they are working together and have warned those planning to breach the new laws would be prosecuted under the Public Health Act. “Those in breach will be arrested and prosecuted in line with provisions of the Public Health Act,” said Mr Kagwe. “Much to our disappointment, the majority of people continue to ignore measures spelt out earlier. If we behave normally, this disease will treat us abnormally.”
The Act has various penalties under the prevention and suppression of infectious diseases. First on the charge list will be Kilifi deputy governor Gideon Saburi who refused to self-isolate after returning from Germany
