State-owned power producer Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen), invites sealed bids by 13 March from eligible candidates for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of butterfly valves at the Sagana hydropower station.
The Sagana hydropower plant is located near Nyeri town approximately 170 km from Nairobi and comprises three horizontally mounted turbine generators with ratings of 500 kW each, totalling 1500 kW.
The plant was commissioned in 1956 and utilizes water from Mount Kenya on river Sagana.
The plant is in good operational condition, though the inlet valves is manually operated and has aged, causing machine overspeeding as a result of the slow closing operation. The Inlet valves require rehabilitation to ensure optimal availability.
