New evidence in a corruption case against former Kasarani member of Parliament Elizabeth Ongoro might see her netted.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has moved to court to be allowed to amend the charges facing the former PM and bring in new evidence to tighten the case against her.
The former MP and nine others are accused of embezzling over Kshs. 48 million which was meant for construction of Kasarani Girls High School. The funds are part of the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).
The former MP, her husband and eight will now face new charges including embezzlement public funds amounting to Kshs.h43 million from the CDF. The new evidence includes some news documents which had not been obtained or were in the process of being acquired by the time the case commenced, and which are now in the custody of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigating officers.
The DPP told the court that the documents are “crucial, relevant and substantial for the just and fair determination of the case,”
The anti-corruption court’s Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ooko has directed that the application should be served to the defence and the matter mentioned on March 31, to pick a ruling date.
The misuse and embezzlement of CDF funds has been one of the most common corruption cases facing public officials.
