Busia County Government through the Ward Development Fund (WDF) has rolled out a Sh35m project where groups in the selected wards will benefit from 234 dairy animals and animal feeds.
Launching the project at Bukhalarire Chief’s camp in Marachi Central Ward on Tuesday, Busia Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi thanked Marachi Central Member of the County Assembly Honourable Patrick Obuya for joining MCAs who value the project for the benefit of the people of Busia County.
The DG said the County Government was making concerted efforts to introduce value addition for milk products to empower farmers to boost milk production in the county.
The second in command said Butula had benefitted from the county Government’s gesture by availing two milk coolers in the county, adding that Bumala B will benefit from a dairy park.
He said Khunyangu sub county hospital will enjoy modern X-ray and theatre facilities.
Agriculture Executive Dr Moses Osia said the aim of the project is to increase milk production in the county and stop the culture of importing milk from neighbouring Uganda, noting that it’s also aimed at increasing household income.
Area MCA Patrick Obuya said the dairy project is aimed at reducing poverty in the area, telling the 18 groups that benefited from the first cohort of the grant to take care of their animals so as to increase milk production in the county.
