The U.S government officials are now claiming that Iran mistakenly shot a missile which brought down the Ukrainian plane that killed all 176 people aboard.
The Ukrainian International Airlines Boeing 737-800 crashed on Wednesday soon after taking off from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport, amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran with initial reports indicating that the accident was caused by technical problems.
However, various U.S media houses have since quoted high ranking members of the President Donald Trump-led administration who highly believe Iran was behind the crash.
According to CBS News, a source within U.S intelligence said “a satellite detected infrared blips of two missile launches, followed by another blip of an explosion.”
Newsweek, another U.S news outlet, reportedly quoted a Pentagon official and an Iraqi intelligence official saying the plane was hit by a Tor missile made by Russia.
President Trump, speaking on Thursday, intimated that Iran could have been behind the crash saying “I have my suspicions” and that “somebody could have made a mistake.”
Iran dismissed reports that a missile brought down a Ukrainian airliner with 176 on board as ‘illogical rumours’.
