Samsung Electronics East Africa has launched the Galaxy A18 LTE and Galaxy A08 LTE smartphones in Kenya with entry prices of KSh32,000 and KSh23,300 respectively.

Both models feature 90Hz displays, 50-megapixel main cameras, IP64 dust-and-water protection, 25W fast charging and support for microSD cards up to 2TB.

Samsung promises six generations of operating-system upgrades and six years of security maintenance releases for each device, extending its long-term software-support policy to lower-priced phones.

The A18 LTE uses a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel, a 5,000mAh battery, and the Exynos 1610/G99+ chipset, while the A08 LTE employs a 6.7-inch HD+ PLS LCD screen, a 6,000mAh battery and the Helio G99+ chipset.

At launch the A18 LTE is offered with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage; a higher-spec 8GB RAM/256GB version is slated for later in the year at KSh51,600. The A08 LTE starts with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, with a 6GB RAM/128GB variant planned at KSh33,100.

Camera systems differ, with the A18 LTE combining a 50MP autofocus main sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP depth sensor, whereas the A08 LTE pairs a 50MP autofocus main sensor with a 2MP rear sensor and an 8MP front-facing camera.

Both phones incorporate Samsung Knox Vault for hardware-based security, RAM Plus virtual memory, and AI features such as Circle to Search 3.0 and voice-activated assistants Gemini and Perplexity.

The A18 LTE’s chassis uses a new glass-fibre-reinforced polymer material, and the price gap of KSh8,700 represents roughly a 37 per cent premium for the higher-resolution AMOLED model.

Samsung notes that the six-year software-support commitment builds on similar promises made for recent Galaxy A series devices such as the A27 5G, A37 5G and A57 5G, giving budget-segment buyers a longer usable lifespan.
