The Safaricom Chapa Dimba All-Stars boys’ team concluded a week-long elite football camp in Spain with a commanding 4-2 win over host club SD Huesca U20, capping a program aimed at elevating grassroots talent to professional standards.
Safaricom, through its Chapa Dimba initiative, flew a 24-player squad of boys and girls to Huesca on 6th September for intensive training sessions, friendly matches, and mentorship at the Base Aragonesa de Fútbol, S.D. Huesca’s modern sports city, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing Kenya’s emerging football prospects.

The final friendly match, played on Sunday, saw Denzel Omollo, Armstrong Omondi, Brian Aroka, and Baraka Rodgers score for the Kenyan side, while SD Huesca managed two goals through a Joseph Maosa own goal and Felipe Montero, giving the All-Stars a morale-boosting finish to their Spanish tour.
The girls’ squad, though not in official competition on Sunday, trained under the guidance of Academy coach Juan Ramón Fung earlier in the day, part of a schedule that blended skill development, tactical instruction, and exposure to European football culture.
Speaking after the match, Baraka Rodgers, one of the All-Stars scorers, said the experience in Spain had reshaped his perspective on football development.
“First, I want to sincerely thank Safaricom for this opportunity,” said Rodgers, explaining that the week in Spain broadened their mindset and approach to the game while demonstrating what it takes to excel at higher levels of competition.
Fawzia Ali, Safaricom’s Chief Consumer Business Officer, said the program’s value lay in offering the players first-hand exposure to world-class facilities and coaching standards.
“We have had a great week here in Spain, giving our youngsters invaluable exposure to professional football training,” said Ali, noting that such opportunities prepare players to compete for national call-ups and professional contracts.
During the tour, players also attended a Segunda División match between SD Huesca and Málaga CF, while cultural excursions such as sightseeing and city tours provided a broader international experience beyond the pitch.
The Spanish bootcamp concludes Season Four of Safaricom Chapa Dimba, which has been instrumental in scouting and promoting young talent.
Over ten players from this season have already secured spots with Kenyan Premier League clubs or national teams, among them Derrick Oketch and Austine Odongo at Shabana FC, Brighton Anyona at Gor Mahia, and Emily Morang’a at Kenya Police, underscoring the program’s role as a pipeline for professional opportunities.
By combining technical training with global exposure, Safaricom Chapa Dimba continues to bridge local youth football with professional pathways, positioning Kenya’s young athletes for long-term careers while strengthening the country’s football ecosystem.
