Motorists using Nairobi's busy Ngong Road corridor are set to enjoy smoother journeys following the commissioning of the KSh3.58 billion Ngong Road–Naivasha Road interchange near Junction Mall.
President William Ruto officially opened the project on 30 June 2026, describing it as a key investment in improving mobility, reducing congestion and supporting economic growth in the capital.
The project was implemented by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and funded through the Spanish Corporate International Fund (FIEM).
The new interchange features an 800-metre, four-lane elevated flyover, upgraded junctions, pedestrian walkways, cycling lanes and improved drainage infrastructure designed to enhance safety and ease traffic flow along one of Nairobi's busiest transport corridors.
Cutting travel time
The Ngong Road–Naivasha Road junction has long been a traffic bottleneck, particularly during morning and evening rush hours.
The new flyover is expected to significantly reduce travel time for motorists travelling between Ngong Road, Naivasha Road and surrounding areas such as Dagoretti, Karen and the Nairobi Central Business District.
The project is also expected to improve access to the nearby Talanta Sports City, which is under construction ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while supporting businesses located around the Junction Mall commercial area.
Boosting Nairobi's transport network
The commissioning forms part of the government's wider plan to modernise Nairobi's transport infrastructure through strategic road upgrades aimed at improving connectivity and supporting economic activity.
Beyond easing congestion, the new interchange is expected to lower transport costs, improve road safety and enhance the movement of people and goods across the city.
As Nairobi continues to grow, projects such as the Ngong Road–Naivasha Road flyover are expected to play a critical role in creating a more efficient and resilient urban transport system.
