The Director of Public Prosecution has sought to detain 22 more KRA employees on allegations of aiding tax evasion to allow police conclude investigations.

Principal prosecution counsel Duncan Ondimu argued that holding the suspects in custody for 21 days will facilitate the examination of their phones, laptops and electronic gadgets that were confiscated and are yet to be subjected to forensic examination.

The development coming even as 38 KRA employees who were on Monday detained for 14 days pending conclusion of investigations move to the high court to challenge their detention.

The suspects who were arrested Tuesday upon presenting themselves to the DCI office were arraigned in court in connection with investigations relating to aiding tax evasion at the Kenya Revenue Authority.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Paul Mayova, the prosecution sought to detain them for further 21 days to allow the investigation team which has since recovered 178 mobile phones to carry out data analysis with the help of service providers.

The court is set to hear and determine the matter Thursday.
