A hotel manager suspected of fatally shooting a Coast Bus employee at Polyview Estate in Kisumu over the weekend has been detained for 14 days to allow detectives to complete their investigations.

Daniel Jaoko of Ray-Green hotel had pleaded with the court to allow the officers to detain him only for seven days.

Eliab Njehia, an investigating officer, told Senior Resident Magistrate Joselyn Kimetto that a post mortem was yet to be done on the body and asked for more time.

“We need ample time to complete our investigations. Post mortem has not been done on the body,” said Njehia.

The court also heard that detectives are still analyzing spent cartridges that were found at the scene of the crime before preferring any charges against the suspect.

Njehia argued that releasing the suspect, Daniel Jaoko of Ray-Green hotel, was likely to interfere with the investigations and made an application that the suspect is detained at Kondele police station.

Jaoko is said to have shot Peter Otieno three times on the chest at the hotel’s parking in the wee hours of Saturday.

The investigating officer in the case told the court that the suspect was found with a Ceska pistol, a magazine loaded with ammunition and a civilian certificate of firearm ownership.

“I pray that the respondent is held for 14 days to enable the prosecution to complete its investigations,” said Njehia.

In her ruling, Kimetto said that there were compelling reasons to grant the application that had been made and ordered that the suspect be detained for 14 days.
