Kenya has been named the world’s friendliest country in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, earning a near-perfect score of 98.46 and placing ahead of Barbados, Mexico, and Bhutan in a ranking that underscores the country’s growing global appeal as a tourism and hospitality destination.

Kenya has been ranked the world’s friendliest country in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards, earning a 98.46 score and surpassing Barbados and Mexico.

The accolade reflects the country’s enduring reputation for warmth and hospitality, qualities that have long defined the Kenyan travel experience.

In its report, Condé Nast Traveller credited the people of Kenya for transforming wildlife safaris, coastal escapes, and urban adventures into deeply personal experiences through their friendliness and professionalism.

“As crowned by our readers, Kenya receives the title of world’s friendliest country for 2025, and it’s easy to see why,” said the publication, describing Kenyan guides as “people who make you feel completely at ease, even when metres away from a prowling lion.”

The magazine cited Kenya’s dual character as both an adventure hub and a place of serenity—an economy where Nairobi’s cosmopolitan energy meets the tranquil allure of the coast.

It highlighted the capital’s vibrant nightlife, art scene, and hospitality sector as a reflection of the country’s youthful dynamism, while describing Diani, Watamu, and Malindi as coastal havens offering “five-star resorts along endless stretches of white sand.”

The ranking placed Kenya first, ahead of Barbados, Mexico, Bhutan, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mauritius, Chile, Seychelles, and Thailand, all of which scored above 96 percent, signalling an exceptionally close global competition.

According to Condé Nast Traveller, Kenya distinguished itself through “exceptional safari hospitality,” while other top contenders such as Bhutan and Mexico were recognised for their focus on happiness and cultural unity.

Industry observers say the recognition is likely to strengthen Kenya’s global tourism brand at a time when the sector is regaining momentum after the pandemic.

The Ministry of Tourism has identified service excellence and destination diversity as central to the country’s visitor growth strategy, with renewed focus on cultural, adventure, and community-based tourism.

Beyond its natural endowments, Kenya’s tourism success has been anchored in people, professional guides, hotel staff, and community hosts whose warmth shapes the visitor experience.

The award, therefore, not only celebrates the country’s landscapes and wildlife but also acknowledges the social and cultural fabric that sustains its tourism offering.

Kenya’s blend of modernity and tradition continues to attract a diverse visitor profile. Nairobi, one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities, offers conference tourism, urban safaris, and nightlife that appeal to younger travellers, while destinations such as Naivasha and Amboseli cater to wellness, nature, and conservation-focused experiences.

Regional analysts suggest that the global visibility from Condé Nast Traveller’s endorsement could translate into higher arrival numbers in 2025 and beyond, particularly from Western and Asian source markets that rely on brand perception and traveller reviews.

As the country celebrates this recognition, industry players are being urged to maintain high service standards and invest in training to match the expectations of an expanding global audience.

The award, while symbolic, sets a benchmark for the quality and consistency that Kenya must uphold to sustain its place among the world’s leading destinations.
