Kenya’s tourism sector recorded historic growth in 2024, setting new records for international arrivals and revenue, according to Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano.
The Tourism CS described the achievement as a demonstration of global confidence in Kenya’s natural heritage, cultural diversity, and hospitality services.

“Kenya earned the highest revenue in our history from tourism, reaffirming the sector’s position as a cornerstone of our national economy,” Miano said.
She noted that tourism is not only about travel but also about livelihoods, supporting hundreds of thousands of jobs, attracting investment in hospitality and infrastructure, and contributing to foreign exchange earnings.
The growth, Miano said, has a direct impact on communities near parks, conservancies, and cultural sites, boosting local economies across the country.
For the first time, Kenya welcomed 2.4 million international visitors, the highest number ever recorded.
“Each of these visitors brings economic activity by staying in hotels, visiting attractions, supporting local businesses, and purchasing Kenyan products,” Miano explained.
She added that this ripple effect strengthens small enterprises, empowers youth in the tourism value chain, and benefits local economies nationwide.
Kenya achieved an African tourism market share of 3.2% in 2024, marking the highest figure in the country’s history.
“This positions Kenya not only as a regional leader but also as a global player in sustainable tourism and conservation,” Miano said.
Tourism contributes approximately 10% to Kenya’s GDP, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs, while also supporting conservation efforts by promoting responsible visitation to parks, wildlife areas, and heritage sites.
Miano described the historic numbers as more than statistics, saying they represent hope, growth, and opportunities for Kenyans.
She attributed the achievement to strategic investments in marketing, infrastructure, and security, which have strengthened Kenya’s global tourism appeal.
Looking ahead, Miano said the focus will remain on sustainability, community empowerment, and innovation to further enhance Kenya’s position as a world-class tourism destination.
“We invite the world to continue exploring Magical Kenya as a land of breathtaking beauty, rich culture, and warm hospitality,” Miano said.
She concluded with the tagline, “Kenya ni Home!”
