Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry, Rebecca Miano, officially inaugurated Nairobi’s Museum of Illusions on Saturday, marking a transformative moment for Kenya’s tourism and creative education sectors.
The museum, the first in East Africa and part of a global franchise with over 45 locations worldwide, has already generated significant buzz for its blend of art, science, and interactive learning.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Miano emphasized the museum’s role in advancing Kenya’s tourism diversification goals.
The Cabinet Secretary highlighted the project’s alignment with the government’s agenda to boost public-private partnerships, particularly in sectors blending education and entertainment.
The museum features over 80 exhibits, including the dizzying Vortex Tunnel, a Reverse Room where visitors appear to defy gravity, and a Mirror Maze that challenges spatial awareness.
Its design leverages principles of psychology, physics, and neuroscience to engage audiences of all ages.
Notably, the museum has partnered with local schools to integrate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) learning into its programs.
Educators praised its hands-on approach to explaining complex concepts like optical illusions and sensory perception.
Since its soft launch, the museum has dominated social media platforms, with TikTok and Instagram users sharing surreal photos of its exhibits.
A viral post of CS Miano “levitating” in the Ames Room illusion garnered thousands of likes, amplifying its appeal to younger audiences.
The Museum of Illusions Nairobi is part of a broader strategy to position the city as a hub for innovation and family tourism. Plans are underway to host monthly science fairs and workshops, further cementing its role as an educational landmark.
