Co-op Bank Partners with WorldRemit to Power Seamless Diaspora Transfers in Kenya

Co-operative Bank of Kenya has partnered with global money transfer service WorldRemit to enable fast, secure, and affordable diaspora remittances directly into over 6 million Co-op Bank accounts across Kenya.

The partnership also introduces 150 new cash pickup locations, making funds more accessible to families and individuals receiving support from abroad.

Using the WorldRemit app or website, Kenyans living in over 50 countries, including the U.S., U.K., and Australia, can now send money directly to recipients’ Co-op Bank accounts, with easy withdrawal options via branches, ATMs, or Co-op Kwa Jirani agents.

Diaspora remittances are Kenya’s leading foreign exchange earner, with inflows totaling $2.7 billion in 2018, according to the World Bank.

These funds are vital for education, healthcare, and daily family support.

Arthur Muchangi, Director of Retail Banking at Co-op Bank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to offering secure and accessible remittance services.

He noted that Co-op Bank also operates Kenya’s first 24/7 Diaspora Banking Center.

WorldRemit’s Sharon Kinyanjui praised the collaboration as a step toward deeper financial inclusion and greater convenience for Kenyans globally.
