The US Embassy has accepted the new Kenyan Currency in consular appointments and transaction. This comes shortly after they posted on their site that they were developing procedures to accept the new Kenyan shillings. Until these procedures were in place, consular applicants were only supposed to pay for services using the previous Kenyan shillings and the credit card.
They later posted a tweet which read “After coordination w/@CBKKenya, we have been provided with equipment upgrades & training necessary to accept the new Kenyan currency. We now accept the new currency as well as the legacy currency valid until Oct 1. You may also continue to pay for services by credit card.”
This comes as a reprieve to many Kenyans applying for visas to travel to the United States and badly wanted to pay using the new currency.
