– Uhuru is expected to address the 2019 Transform Africa Summit oraganised by Smart Africa

– Uhuru and his Malian counterpart Keita members of the board of directors of Smart Africa

– It seeks to place ICT at the heart of the continent’s socioeconomic development agenda

A plane carrying President Uhuru Kenyatta and his delegation left Kenya for Kigali, Rwanda on few minutes past 9 am on the morning of Wednesday, May 15.

The Head of State was scheduled to attend the 2019 Transform Africa Summit organised by Smart Africa where he was listed as of the key speakers alongside Malian counterpart Boubakar Keita.

Though little information has been shared on the official social media as been the norm always, multiple sources reported he would be in the East African nation for one day.

He is expected to make a stop over in Entebbe, Uganda on his way back.

The Smart Africa flagship event began on Tuesday, May 14 and will come to a close on May 17 and will majorly focus boosting Africa’s digital economy.

Smart Africa seeks to place Information and Communication Technology at the core of socioeconomic development agenda in Africa and transform the continent into a digital market.

The Summit is expected to attract over 4,000 participants, including presidents and top ranking enterprenuers from both government and private sectors.

The visit comes at a time questions have been raised over his continued silence and out of public sight particularly upon his return from China trip where he graced the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

The State House denied Uhuru was missing in action but pointed out the president was working on different matters which might not necessarily need public speeches.

“The president is around, it doesn’t mean that because he is not seen in public, he is not there, he has an office where he goes every day and he is working on several things,” said Dena.
