Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has described Konza Technopolis as a transformative national project with potential to reshape both Kenya’s economy and its tourism sector by linking technology, investment, and business travel.
Miano toured the smart city on Wednesday alongside Cabinet colleagues from ICT, Industrialization, and other state officials, noting that the development is more than an infrastructure project, but a symbol of Kenya’s future aspirations.

“Konza Technopolis is not just a city but a tangible symbol of Kenya’s bold vision for the future,” she said.
As part of Kenya’s Vision 2030 strategy, the technopolis is designed to anchor the country’s transition into a globally competitive middle-income economy.
According to Miano, the project carries new opportunities for tourism by diversifying Kenya’s appeal to international investors, researchers, conference delegates, and professionals in emerging industries.
“This smart city will attract international tech companies, researchers, and a new class of professionals, a potential high tourist market,” she explained.
The Cabinet Secretary added that the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife is working with other government agencies on joint destination promotions, positioning Kenya as both a technology hub and a travel destination.
“We are committed to working on joint destination promotions that market Kenya as the ‘Silicon Savannah’—a place where innovation meets the wild,” said Miano, linking the development to growth in the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) market.
She also pointed to the importance of public-private partnerships in shaping the city’s tourism infrastructure.
“We are keen to deepen our public-private partnerships to develop tourism-related infrastructure at Konza, ensuring that the city has world-class hotels and leisure facilities to accommodate its visitors,” she said.
According to the Ministry, the project is expected to stimulate employment not only in traditional tourism services but also in technology-driven areas such as digital marketing and data analytics, broadening the scope of tourism’s economic contribution.
Miano concluded by stressing that the blending of technology and natural heritage would be central to sustaining Kenya’s growth.
“By combining the power of technology with the unmatched beauty of our natural heritage, we shall undoubtedly accelerate Kenya’s transformation agenda,” she said.
Konza Technopolis has been billed as one of Africa’s most ambitious smart city projects, designed to host international firms, research institutions, and global technology players, while reinforcing Kenya’s reputation as a destination for both investment and innovation.
