State agencies will only buy locally-assembled vehicles for official administration use in order to boost production. The Government wants to ensure that all state agencies, departments and ministries procure locally assembled vehicles in order to realise Kenya’s “Buy Kenya Build Kenya” goal.
The government is also developing a list of locally produced spare parts in order to discourage local consumers from importing them.
Trade and Industrial Cabinet secretary Peter Munya said the move by the government will help create more jobs and help the country realise a projected growth of 15 % in the manufacturing sector.
He was speaking during the launch of the Sh1 billion expanded assembly plant for Isuzu East Africa. The plant will help in improving value addition, create jobs for locals and suppliers will get jobs.
