If you are looking for examples of organisations that consistently invest in employee development, workplace culture, and inclusive practices, the latest Top Employers Institute rankings offer a clear benchmark.
Safaricom has been named Kenya’s No. 1 Employer and a Top Employer in both Kenya and Africa for 2026, marking the fifth consecutive year the company has received this certification from the global authority that benchmarks organisations against international people-practice standards.

The recognition evaluates six key areas: people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, diversity, equity and inclusion, and employee wellbeing, reflecting a holistic approach to workforce management.
Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom Group CEO, said the award underscores the company’s commitment to empowering employees.
“The award affirms that investing in our people is fundamental to delivering our strategy. Empowered teams enable us to innovate responsibly, serve customers better, and bring our vision of becoming Africa’s leading purpose-led technology company to life,” he explained.
In 2025, Safaricom refreshed its employer value proposition to align employee roles with business outcomes, support career progression, and build future-relevant skills.
The company complements this with benefits such as an employee mortgage scheme, comprehensive medical cover, and access to in-house facilities including clinics and gyms, supporting long-term financial, physical, and mental wellbeing.
Independent recognition has also highlighted Safaricom’s inclusion initiatives. In December 2025, it received the Inclusive Employment & Workplace Award at the Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion Awards, reflecting increased representation of women in leadership, 3.9 percent inclusion of persons with disabilities, and improved accessibility across workplaces and services.
Adrian Seligman, CEO of the Top Employers Institute, said the certification demonstrates the alignment between Safaricom’s people strategy and its organisational goals.
“This certification reflects Safaricom’s dedication to building an outstanding workplace that enables sustained business performance. Their strong alignment between people strategy and organisational goals, combined with a commitment to continuous improvement, demonstrates the impact of their practices,” he said.
The 2025 Top Employers Programme certified nearly 2,500 organisations in 131 countries and regions, covering more than 14 million employees globally, illustrating the competitive standards against which Safaricom’s recognition was measured.
