The Top Employers Institute has certified Safaricom as Kenya’s No. 1 Employer and a Top Employer in Africa for 2026, marking the fifth consecutive year the company has received recognition.

Safaricom is named Kenya’s No. 1 Employer and a Top Employer in Africa for 2026 by the Top Employers Institute.
Safaricom is named Kenya’s No. 1 Employer and a Top Employer in Africa for 2026 by the Top Employers Institute.

The certification evaluates organisations on six areas: people strategy, work environment, talent acquisition, learning, diversity, equity and inclusion, and employee wellbeing.

Safaricom applies these practices to align workforce performance with strategic objectives, focusing on skills development, operational engagement, and employee retention.

“We refreshed our employer value proposition in 2025 to connect employee roles to business outcomes, support skills development, and provide clear career progression pathways,” said CEO Peter Ndegwa.

“The award affirms that investing in our people is fundamental to delivering our strategy.
Empowered teams enable us to innovate responsibly and serve customers effectively,” he added.

The company also provides workplace amenities and benefits to support financial, physical, and mental wellbeing, including employee mortgage schemes, medical coverage, and access to on-site facilities.

Safaricom has received independent recognition for diversity and inclusion.

In December 2025, the company received the Inclusive Employment & Workplace Award at the Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion Awards.

The award acknowledged progress in female representation in leadership, achieving 3.9% representation of persons with disabilities, and improving accessibility across products, services, and workplaces.

“This certification reflects Safaricom’s dedication to building an outstanding workplace that enables sustained business performance. Their alignment between people strategy and organisational goals, combined with a commitment to continuous improvement, demonstrates the impact of their practices,” Adrian Seligman, CEO of the Top Employers Institute said.

In 2025, the Top Employers Programme certified nearly 2,500 organisations in 131 countries, covering more than 14 million employees globally.

The programme provides a benchmark for companies seeking to assess and improve workforce management practices.

Safaricom’s repeated recognition indicates continued focus on structured people practices, workforce engagement, and operational alignment.

The certification confirms that Safaricom maintains policies and practices to support workforce development, promote inclusion, and integrate employee wellbeing into operational strategy.

By sustaining these standards, the company aligns its human resource management with long-term organisational objectives and external benchmarking standards.

The recognition provides a reference point for evaluating and improving employee engagement, talent development and workplace culture.
