Safaricom has rolled out revised M-Pesa business transaction tariffs effective 1 August 2026, lowering the cost of digital payments for thousands of small businesses and traders across the country. The changes target Pochi la Biashara, Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods and Business Till services as the telecommunications company seeks to encourage wider adoption of cashless payments.

Under the new pricing structure, customers using Pochi la Biashara will enjoy free transactions of up to KSh200 during a 90-day promotional period running from 1 August to 31 October 2026, up from the previous free threshold of KSh100. Transactions above KSh200 have also attracted lower charges, with the maximum fee capped at KSh50.

Safaricom has also announced changes to Lipa na M-Pesa Buy Goods, which will take effect from 7 August 2026. Under the revised tariffs, merchants will receive payments of up to KSh500 without transaction charges, compared to the previous threshold of KSh200. The company said the move is intended to reduce the cost of doing business for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).

In addition, businesses transferring money from M-Pesa Business Till accounts to M-Pesa wallets and PayBill accounts will benefit from lower transfer charges, with some transaction bands seeing reductions of up to 50%. Safaricom said the revised tariffs are part of its broader strategy to make digital payments more affordable while helping businesses retain a larger share of their earnings.

The new tariff structure is being implemented under Safaricom's "Pata More" campaign, which aims to drive greater use of digital payment solutions among informal traders, retailers and small businesses. The company believes lower transaction costs will encourage more merchants and customers to embrace cashless payments, strengthening Kenya's digital economy.
