More than 300 students at Kianyingi Primary School are set to benefit from improved learning facilities made possible through support from the M-PESA Foundation.
The initiative includes the construction of 12 classrooms from the ECDE unit to Grade 9, easing congestion and accommodating more students.
New washrooms for boys, girls, and staff will also be set up, improving sanitation standards.
“Education is key to progress in any society. At M-PESA Foundation, we focus on removing obstacles that limit access to quality learning. Through partnerships, such as our collaboration with the Ministry of Education, we continue to improve school infrastructure and address the most urgent needs,” said Joseph Ogutu, Safaricom Foundation Chairman.
The plan also involves setting up and equipping an ICT lab to introduce students to digital literacy and a fully equipped science laboratory for hands-on learning.
M-PESA Foundation has carried out similar improvements in other institutions, such as Karimamwaro Primary School, Makuyu Boys Secondary School, and Thukumu Nursery.
Further work is ongoing in Homa Bay, Siaya, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga, and Kisii counties.
This project is part of the Citizens of the Future initiative, which aims to improve education for three million students within three years.
