The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) confiscated illegal cigarettes estimated at KSh12 million after a raid in Mutuma, Gatundu North, Kiambu County on November 3, 2026.

The action was prompted by intelligence that a major distributor and retailer was operating in the area and had received a shipment in a Toyota Noah vehicle.

A joint team that included officers from KRA’s Investigation and Enforcement Department, the Micro and Small Taxpayers Enforcement Department in Thika, and the Gatundu North Sub-County Police Commander carried out the operation.

Investigators located the premises where several cartons of Super Match cigarettes were stored and entered the site.

They recovered a total of 204 boxes of Super Match, made up of 76 boxes each containing 10,000 sticks and 128 boxes each holding 5,000 sticks.

In addition, the team seized two boxes of ORIS Slim Double Apple, each with 10,000 sticks, another 5,800 sticks of the same brand, and 600 sticks of ORIS Slim Strawberry.

The seized stock was assessed at an approximate value of KSh12 million.

The Crime Scene Investigation unit from Thika recorded the scene and KRA officers issued a Notice of Offence.

All confiscated items were transferred to the KRA warehouse in Thika for secure storage and further action.

KRA said the raid highlights its resolve to curb illicit trade, protect government revenue, promote fair competition for law-abiding businesses and safeguard consumers from illegal products.
