A Mombasa-bound Kenya Airways (KQ) plane has been forced to make an emergency landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after suspected bird strike interfered with engine.

The Embraer KQ604 jet had taken off from JKIA at around 10:11am when the incident happened.

A bird strike reportedly caused an engine glitch that forced the pilot to turn back to JKIA for repair according to a report by Citizen TV.

The aircraft which was carrying unspecified number of people was expected to land in Mombasa at 10:56am.

No injuries were reported.

The national carrier was, however, yet to issue a statement on the matter as at 1pm on Friday.

The incident came barely months after a Boeing 737 Max plane belonging to the Ethiopian Airlines went down killing all 157 passengers.

The accident raised concern on the safety of the Boeing planes, with many airlines grounding the jets amid heightened tension.

In October 29, 2018, a Lion Air 737 Max crashed in Indonesia killing all 189 passengers.

Barely a week ago, at least 136 passengers and seven crew members on a Boeing 737 plane escaped death by a whisker after the jet skid into St Johns River near Jacksonville, Florida, in the United States.
