KCB RFC beats Kabras to be crowned 2019 Kenya Cup champions

KCB RFC have been crowned the 2019 Kenya Cup champions after edging out Kabras 23-15 at their home turf at Kakamega showground’s on Saturday.

KCB Group Director Customer Experience Mr. Job Njiru who is also the Rugby Patron lauded the team for the massive win thanking God for the remarkable comeback

“With God everything is possible, the boys and the coach worked hard for this moment, we never lost our winning spirit and this has paid off” said Njiru.

The Curtis Olago squad masterminded one of the game’s greatest comebacks after a spirited Kabras set the course for victory.

Jacob Ojee broke the deadlock opening the scores followed by a conversion for a 7-0 lead by KCB.

Kabras responded with a try to leave the scores at 7-5 with Philip Wokorach missing a conversion. Kabras fought hard slipping home two tries to lead 15-7 against KCB.

Hundreds of fans cheered on KCB when all appeared to be lost with Kabras fans taunting them.

The bankers sprung back to life with superb attacking with Ahmed Shaban diving over the white wash to give KCB a 18-15 lead while Jacob Ojee added the twos’.

Ojee drilled in another penalty   to give the bankers a 23-15 lead. KCB held onto the lead thwarting attacks from the opponents to be crowned the champions.

The team was awarded ksh 1 million for winning the Kenya Cup for the 3rd consecutive time.

It was a match that many will never forget with the players and the fans in tears after the victory

KCB Head Coach Curtis Olago was a happy man after the victory.

“The game was special, it is a historic win for KCB with Pure class, dedication and perfection” said Olago.

It was double victory for KCB as the KCB B won the ESS cup. The bankers beat Homeboyz 11-5 in a final match staged at KCB Sports club.
