Safaricom has expanded Fuliza to its M-Pesa GlobalPay virtual Visa card. Eligible customers can now use available overdraft limits when wallet funds are insufficient.

The change extends Fuliza into international online payments through the GlobalPay card. The service supports purchases and subscriptions on websites that accept Visa payments. Customers can draw from an available Fuliza limit when their M-Pesa balance cannot cover a transaction.

The move is particularly relevant to recurring digital expenses, where payment failures can interrupt access to services.

Streaming platforms and other subscription services often require scheduled payments from linked accounts or cards.

Using Fuliza through GlobalPay gives eligible customers another way to complete transactions when their wallet balance runs low.

“With Fuliza on the M PESA GlobalPay virtual visa card, your online subscription payments can keep going even when your wallet balance runs low,” said Safaricom, the telecommunications company.

The announcement was made through the company’s official social media channels as it promoted the feature to M-Pesa users.

Customers seeking to use the facility must open the M-Pesa application and activate Fuliza on GlobalPay.

The process connects the available Fuliza limit to eligible transactions made through the virtual card. Access remains subject to a customer having an available Fuliza limit and meeting the service’s eligibility requirements.

Fuliza is operated by Safaricom in partnership with NCBA Bank and KCB Group. The overdraft facility allows eligible M-Pesa customers to complete transactions when their wallet balance is insufficient.

Repayment is then recovered when money is subsequently received in the M-Pesa account, according to the service model described in the source material.

The GlobalPay integration broadens the range of transactions that can draw on Fuliza.

Previously, the facility was mainly associated with everyday M-Pesa transactions, transfers and merchant payments.

Its use through a virtual Visa card now connects the overdraft facility with international online spending, giving eligible users greater flexibility when managing digital subscriptions and purchases.

The development also comes as digital services become a routine part of household spending, from entertainment subscriptions to online platforms that charge customers automatically.

For users who rely on GlobalPay for recurring payments, the feature addresses failed transactions caused by low wallet balances.

Customers still need to understand their available limit and repayment obligations before relying on the facility for recurring expenses.

The availability of Fuliza on GlobalPay does not mean every M-Pesa customer receives the same borrowing capacity.

Safaricom has said its automated credit scoring system assesses several metrics when determining eligibility and limits.

Transaction activity forms part of that assessment, but it is not the sole measure used when assigning access to Fuliza.

The expansion therefore combines convenience with the existing conditions attached to an overdraft facility.

Customers can use the service for eligible online payments, but borrowed funds remain subject to repayment.

The change gives GlobalPay users another payment option without altering the underlying need to manage available credit responsibly.
