Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has shortlisted Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Issack Hassan for the position of a judge at the Court of Appeal.

Ex- IEBC deputy Lilian Mahiri-Zaja has also been shortlisted for the position of a judge at the High Court.

The two lawyers served IEBC between 2011 and 2016 but left after ODM leader Raila Odinga pushed for Hassan and his team’s forceful removal before the 2017 polls.

Odinga accused the commissioners of corruption and colluding with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration to rig the August 8 general election.

In a notice published on Wednesday, Hassan and Mahiri-Zaja are among the 334 individuals who have been shortlisted by JSC.

The Commission advertised the positions on March 14, 2022 and a total of 68 individuals applied for the positions in the court of appeal out of which the JSC shortlisted 31.

Some 266 individuals also applied for the positions in the High Court and 104 were shortlisted with interviews set to be conducted between June 20 and August 24 this year.

“The interviews will be conducted at the Judicial Service commission office boardroom Reinsurance Plaza, podium floor in Nairobi,” the notice read.

Secretary of prosecutions Dorcas Oduor also wants to join the JSC as the judge of High Court.

JSC has called on the public to submit details of any applicant that may be of interest to the commission.

“Members of public are invited to avail in writing any information of interest in respect to any of the shortlisted candidates …

…The Commission may interview any member of the public who has submitted any information of interest in respect of any shortlisted candidate and such information will be kept confidential”, the notice read.

The information should be sent to [email protected] or write to Anne Amadi P.O Box 40048-00100.
