The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has directed the Inspector General (IG) of Police to expedite the ongoing investigations into the fake gold scams and forward the resultant investigation file(s) to him within seven days the report from which appropriate action will be taken.
In a statement Saturday, the DPP at the same time, says claims and circulation through social media of a telephone conversation between two persons relating to an ongoing investigation into an incident of fake gold found within the city are alarmist and may unnecessarily cause disaffection.
“ My attention has been drawn to an audio clip making the rounds on social media, in which an apparent telephone conversation between two speakers, allegations are made suggesting that certain information had been conveyed or relayed to HE the President, former Prime Minister and CS Matiang’i, and that a discussion had been held between the eminent personalities.” He said.
“Such claims and their circulation through social media and specifically, leaked phone recordings in today’s age of real-time borderless publishing are alarmist and may needlessly cause disaffection.” He added.

Haji said that until all facts are obtained and analyzed it is irresponsible and possibly unlawful to publish such material to the public.
He noted that he had personally received a complaint and representation from victims of the scam claiming that the personality has been dealing with them for some time now and invoking the president’s name in their dealings and conversations.
“Having realized that they were conned of the availability of the gold and the misleading knowledge and involvement of HE the President, the former Prime Minister and CS Matiang’i, they resolved to make a report to the Kenyan authorities and cooperate with law enforcement in unearthing the under-dealings.” He noted.
He urged all Kenyans who may have information on any ongoing or alleged criminal activities to take advantage of confidential mechanisms of reporting to law enforcement agencies,’ in order to maintain the integrity of investigations and the preservation of evidence and witnesses.
“The objectivity of any criminal investigation is to bring culprits to account. This can only be done when inquiries are undertaken in a sedate atmosphere, free from sensationalization and alarm. For that reason, I take this opportunity to encourage anyone with information that may assist the investigations to volunteer the same and assure that the same shall be treated with utmost confidentiality.”
