DP Ruto remembers Kibaki as a Great Economist

DP William Ruto has announced that he and the Kenya Kwanza alliance members have postponed all their political activities for the next 3 days to mourn the third President of Kenya the Late Mwai Kibaki.

DP Ruto has stopped all political activity for 3 days to mourn the most respected president of the country whereas the Azimio Leader Raila Odinga is shamelessly roaming abroad and doing political stunts

The four-day tour was to run until Sunday, covering Bungoma, Busia and Kakamega.

Speaking during the Kakamega County Economic Forum held at the Musingu High School grounds, the Dr Ruto said the move was prompted by the death of Retired President Mwai Kibaki.

“We pay tribute to President Kibaki. A leader who distinguished himself with a great legacy that he has left behind,” Dr Ruto said as he broke the meeting for a moment of silence to mourn the country’s 3rd president.

Dr Ruto said Kenya was poorer without President Kibaki.

“He has been a great inspiration to the Kenya Kwanza team, especially on his focus to the economy,” he added.

The Deputy President explained that Kenya Kwanza will now postpone its meetings in the region to mourn “a great son of our country.”

Besides the Kakamega Economic Forum, Kenya Kwanza was to hold a rally in Butula in Busia, Luanda in Vihiga and Eshisiru in Kakamega on Friday.

On Saturday, the Dr Ruto-led political formation was to hold the Bungoma Economic Forum in Webuye Town before proceeding to Busia, Mumias and Lugari for public engagement.

While DP Ruto was cancelling his political engagements, Azimio project and ODM leader Raila Odinga is expected to fly to the US on Friday, weeks after touring the UK. Mr Odinga is expected to hold meetings with leaders as well as engage Kenyans in the diaspora.

He is expected to spell out his vision for the country and bilateral relations with the US in the event he becomes president. Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, touted as Mr Odinga’s possible running mate, is expected to join him on the trip.

Leaders continue to pay tribute to former President Mwai Kibaki whose death was announced by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday. Kibaki is mourned as Kenya’s best Chief Executive Officer whose tenure is decorated by revamped economic growth, free education, improved healthcare services, expansion of major highways and promulgation of the new constitution.

But it must be remembered that Kibaki never relied on amending the constitution and creation of irrelevant positions to perform. He took over realms of power from the authoritative Moi regime and made commendable transformations.

As Kibaki was doing these, entire ODM leader Raila Odinga who had backed him in the 2002 polls was complaining that prime minister Position had not been created and dished to him. There disagreements on positions were also experienced in Kibaki’s rejection of a parliamentary system of governance which led to his fallout with Odinga, and stalled the push for reforms that had propelled Rainbow coalition to power.
