Kenyan technology entrepreneur Brian Otieno is developing KulaMtaani, a food-commerce platform designed to streamline operations for restaurants, food vendors and private chefs, and the service was launched in June 2025 through his company Rorik-Asilic Infotech Group Limited.
Otieno says the platform aims to replace fragmented tools such as WhatsApp messages, phone calls, notebooks and spreadsheets with a single system that provides digital storefronts, order management, point-of-sale, delivery coordination, supplier procurement and business reporting.
Since its launch, KulaMtaani has engaged with more than 70 food businesses, primarily in the Kimbo and Kiambu areas around Nairobi, as part of its product validation and market-building efforts.
Otieno notes that most of the development has been financed from his personal resources, which requires the business to balance product development with customer acquisition, infrastructure and merchant onboarding.
An early hosting interruption resulted in the loss of the initial business database, forcing the team to rebuild the foundation and underscoring the importance of reliable infrastructure.
The next milestone, according to Otieno, is to demonstrate repeat usage, establish a sustainable customer-acquisition process and grow a stronger base of businesses that rely on KulaMtaani daily.
Looking ahead, Otieno envisions KulaMtaani becoming a trusted operating platform for food businesses across Kenya and eventually other African markets within five years, supporting a coordinated food-commerce ecosystem.
