On October 9, ride-hailing firm Bolt presented fuel vouchers, vehicle-service coupons, tyres and other incentives to its highest-performing drivers in Nairobi and Mombasa as part of Customer Service Week.

The ceremony took place at Bolt’s Nairobi Driver Engagement Centre and gathered drivers who have been active on the platform for at least six months, covering both car operators and boda boda riders.

Drivers also received breakfast, T-shirts and reflective vests during the engagement activities.

Senior Operations Manager Arthur Gacharia said drivers are the first and last point of contact in a ride-hailing journey and that their work directly shapes the experience a customer has.

Recognised rider Samson Ouma explained that maintaining good ratings requires discipline, consistency and a strong commitment to the work.

Bolt has partnered with the Kenya Red Cross to train 75 boda boda riders in first-aid and emergency response skills, an initiative that is being monitored for possible expansion.

Through a financing arrangement with M-KOPA, thousands of drivers have accessed electric motorcycles with lower upfront costs, a move aimed at reducing running and maintenance expenses compared with petrol-powered bikes.

The company noted that seven in ten electric vehicles operating on its Kenyan platform are currently electric.

Bolt also continues dialogue with driver representatives, policymakers and regulators on matters affecting drivers and the wider ride-hailing sector.
