Postmortem examination on bodies of Mariam Kighenda and her daughter Amanda Mutheu who died in the Likoni Ferry accident two weeks ago is expected to be performed today in the afternoon.

The autopsy is scheduled to be conducted at Jocham Hospital by the Government Chief Pathologist Dr Johansen Oduor.

After the autopsy, the family can then be given the bodies for burial, something which comes as a relief to the family who have endured a long wait for the bodies since the September 29 accident.

At the same time, Kenya Ferry Services has donated Sh200,000 to the bereaved family. In a statement, the agency said the money is to
assist the family with burial preparations.

“Today the Government (KFS) has donated Sh200,000 towards assisting the family of the late Mariam Kighenda and daughter Amanda
Mutheu in burial preparation. In this time of grief, the family is in our thoughts and prayers. Please accept our deepest sympathies…” read the statement.

The deceased are scheduled to be laid to rest at Ngaamba area of Kilome Constituency in Makueni County on Saturday according to the family spokesman.
