KCB Bank Group mobile banking system might have been compromised on Tuesday this week, according to sources.
On Wednesday 20th January 2021 morning, some clients reported seeing deductions of negligible amounts such as Sh5 from their accounts. Meanwhile, others reported being given withdrawal-amount option of monies that were not in their accounts.
Most of those who chanced upon this ‘windfall’ went on asset buying spree.
“Investigate KCB hack that happened yesterday, guys withdrew up to 900k via KCB mobile banking. Guys have rushed to buy motorcycle and cars with the money. Am talking about Nakuru region”, said a source who wished to remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of the matter.
But the ‘windfall’ was not to last as some who withdrew money above their account limit were shocked when the bank converted that to loans.
It also appeared like the KCB Bank hesit started on Tuesday day time but most came to know about it Wednesday morning.
Tuesday day time. People just withdrew from money from KCB mobile banking. It happened in Kabarak, Kericho and Eldama Ravine. New bikes in the town can be seen. Crazy it didn’t go viral”, the source continued.
He continued, “If you have a KCB employee friend I am sure you will get the full report. One tried to move Sh50k from his KCB account which had only Sh100 and he got his Sh50k. He tried again and he got it again”,
“My friend woke up and got a message she withdrew 5/- from her acc at 2am yet she was asleep”, he concluded
Question is, was KCB Bank hacked? Please check your account balance.
