Last week’s declaration by the Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha for resumption of leaning by Tertiary Institutions could be dealt following new demand from the students’ body.
Kenya university Student Organization (KUSO) led by its president Antony Manyara is now calling on the Ministry of Education to put in place safety precautions before the institutions reopening in October.
The students want critical issues pertaining their safety on contracting the dreadful Corona Virus.
They demanded the institutional capacity in universities, TTCs, and TIVETs continuously adhere to a social distance of 1.5 meters.
The student leaders wanted the government to offer more financial assistance to enable the institutions employ more lecturers and tutorial fellows so as to maintain the lecturer-students ratio within Covid-19 protocols.
“The government should provide free certified, standard nose masks and hand sanitizers to students. We also request the ministry of health to provide technological assistance to the institutions in order to ensure more access to e-libraries and less paper interactions in studies,” said Manyara.
KUSO’s deputy president Maya Abdi said it behoves CS George Magoha to integrate best global experience into in to local developments, acknowledging the need for sincere consultation informed by values of honesty, integrity and truth enshrined in the constitution of Kenya 2010.
Maya also called upon the timely disbursement of HELB student loan to cushion students already in dwindling financial status.
